Should I Wear Make-Up for My Photo Session?

The question of, “Do I really need to put on make-up?” comes up quite frequently. So let’s dig into this one.

The basic answer is this: Wearing make-up when applied correctly can really help female-identifying faces pop and be highlighted beautifully. If you are not going to wear make-up and don’t want a heavily-edited portrait, I recommend going with black-and-white photos.

Using a base layer of foundation can help with a seamless look on the skin, creating a smooth appearance.

As someone who doesn’t wear a lot of make-up ever, I can tell you that there are several levels of foundation or “coverage.” Even light coverage, which is what I use occasionally, can help with your final images.

It’s not really cheating, by the way, if that’s what you’re thinking. It’s an aid in putting your best profile forward.
